Transportation Engineer with Planning Focus

Kittelson & Associates has an immediate opening for a Transportation Engineer with an expertise in traffic operations and an interest in multimodal planning work to join our growing office in Sacramento, California. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, energetic professional who is passionate and experienced in analyzing complex transportation systems and developing data-driven recommendations to help make informed planning and operational decisions.

Sacramento is a small, growing office with a strong focus on planning as it relates to corridor studies, system planning, safety, and active transportation projects. We are seeking to add an engineer with an interest in planning studies to complement this work and who is motivated to build relationships and pursue new opportunities that will impact the local community.

Job description

The successful candidate will understand the importance of data-driven decisions and exhibit an interest in participating in collaborative, interdisciplinary project teams. This person will have a strong desire and the interpersonal skills to interface with clients, and will receive mentoring and support from the team in order to become successful in this role. The successful candidate will be looking for more opportunities to take on additional responsibility as they manage their own career path at the firm.

Job requirements

Required qualifications:
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience with a focus on data analysis, traffic operations, and micro-simulation analyses for complex traffic, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian projects.
  • Registered California Civil PE, California TE, or PTOE certification.
  • Candidates must have significant hands-on experience in traffic and freeway operations software, such as HCS, Synchro, CORSIM, SIDRA, FREQ, and VISSIM.
  • Ability to effectively manage tasks and develop solid internal and client relationships.
  • Proven experience in providing quality technical analysis.
  • Strong willingness and ability to lead and win competitive marketing pursuits.

Preferred additional qualifications
:
  • Experience in completing reviews of current multimodal transportation policies, analyzing historical crash data, and developing conceptual multimodal improvement concepts.
  • Strong familiarity with Highway Capacity Manual principles with a specific focus on traffic operations, multimodal operations, context-sensitive design, and safety.
  • An understanding of the Caltrans Highway Design Manual, Plans Preparation Manual, and CA MUTCD.
  • Experience in coordinating with environmental planners, stakeholder outreach teams, and other disciplines for project delivery.
  • Confident public speaker before laypersons, stakeholders, teaming partners, and owners.
